As a rideshare driver, it is beneficial in all sorts of ways to keep your vehicle clean. This may mean a daily wipedown of the seat, or weekly trips to the car wash with interior cleaning services. Keeping your rideshare vehicle clean will help keep it germ-free, odor-free, and ensure that your passengers feel safe and comfortable riding in your vehicle. A dirty car can mean a poor rating, which could put your job in jeopardy. Plus, if you keep all of your receipts, cleaning counts as a business expense come tax time – so washing your work vehicle literally pays for itself. Here is a helpful cleaning checklist for Uber and Lyft drivers, to make cleaning easy.

Keeping Your Rideshare Vehicle Clean

A recent study showed that rideshare cars are one of the worst culprits for germs, especially during cold and flu season. In order to protect yourself and your clients, it’s a good idea to keep a few cleaning products handy in the trunk for day-to-day use:

  • Clorox or other disinfecting wipes
  • Lysol or disinfecting cleaning spray for all surfaces
  • Roll of paper towels
  • Tissues
  • Gloves
  • Febreze or scented spray
  • Dustpan and broom
  • Extra garbage bags

On a daily basis, you never know what you may be dealing with. You may have a lot of quiet clients that do no damage or you may encounter anything from a group of rowdy bar-goers at night to parents with a toddler that puts their mouth on everything. This is why it’s a good idea to stay prepared. Some items will get used more than others, but by keeping your cleaning products stocked up, you can easily deal with a messy situation at any time so that you can get right back on the road.

Daily Cleaning List for Uber and Lyft Drivers

In addition to just being good manners, Uber and Lyft do require that their drivers keep their vehicles at a certain standard. On a daily basis you should:

  • Use disinfectant wipes and/or spray to wipe down seats as well as the door handles (both outside and inside!).
  • Use the dustpan to sweep the floor from any debris or crumbs
  • During the winter, remove any mats or anything wet from the backseat and allow it to dry
  • Throw out any garbage or recyclables and take it home with you
  • Spray a scent to keep your vehicle fresh

You should take care to not eat in your vehicle and not allow passengers to do so. If you must eat in the car, you can avoid any messes, smells, or bugs by immediately stopping to clean up the floor and any surfaces from crumbs and grease stains.

Take Your Car for a Professional Cleaning Regularly

At least once a week you should take your vehicle to the car wash for an interior and exterior cleaning. During the winter, salt and snow will leave your car looking dirty, while in the spring pollen can collect and exacerbate allergies. Outdoor elements can damage the exterior of the car as well as your tires, undercarriage, and other mechanisms, so washing your car contributes

to its long-term use as well. Plus, you can take advantage of our vacuuming areas to ensure your car is always in great shape for your customers.

At Flagstop Car Wash, you can even become a member and keep it easy and cheap to wash your car by joining the RVA Wash Club. We have a variety of locations throughout the Richmond area so you’ll find it is easy and convenient to stop in and get your rideshare vehicle washed at any time.
