As summer storms roll around and humidity rises, every person who owns a vehicle with a soft-top is wondering how to keep the material safe and their car in pristine condition.

Here are few tips to protecting your open-air car and ensuring that it doesn’t get damaged during the coming months:

Brush off dirt and debris

Before hand washing the soft-top, you’ll want to remove anything that has fallen on or collected in the material. Professional Carwashing recommends using a softer vacuum brush or a soft bristle brush to avoid damaging the cloth.

Hand wash

To effectively hand wash your convertible, Your Mechanic suggests using the following items:

  • Car shampoo
  • Convertible top cleaner
  • Fabric guard
  • Plastic car product
  • Protectant
  • Soft brush

When hand washing it, we recommend using a gentle shampoo as well as a softer brush. Apply convertible top spray next to break down grease and grime that has built up on the cloth.

After you’ve thoroughly cleaned, sprayed, and brushed the top, rinse your car and keep the top up so it can air dry. Folding down the soft-top while still damp can slow the drying process and cause your car to smell.

Clean the windows and beltline

Even though the cloth and vinyl are now clean , don’t forget about the windows and beltline.

If the windows are discolored, you can use a plastic care product to get them back to normal. Your Mechanic mentions Diamondite Plasti-Care, but other plastic care products work as well.

To clean the beltline, open the convertible top partly and then clean the exposed areas. This method allows more access to where to dirt and stains may be hiding.

We hope these steps help you quickly and effectively clean your convertible soft-top. If you have any questions or would like more insights, please reach out to us! We’re here for all of your car washing needs.
